I have finally won over the stupid dragon eyelids. I finally got the sio-2 natural air dry clay to work as it should. And I am happy with the result. It is not as black as it should be, but a little paint will fix that. I have painted it and am going to let it dry overnight to see how well it takes the kind of paint I have. I am very excited. It dried har and tough. I dropped it on the lgass a few times and it did not break or crack. So now I have eyes and potentially the lids. I will see how things shake out in the morning, and if it took the paint fine I will make more in all the positions I need and let them dry, them paint them, then do some test sequences to see how well my idea works. Woot woot. :P

Still working on stuff. Having issues with these dragon eyes. Why am I so full of fail? It doesn't seem like thy shuld be that hard. Very frustrated with myself. One of these days I will get it. I just invested a little bit more in nail polish from the dollar store. The browns are way too pinkish. I wish I knew more about color to know what to add to make em what I want. I can't afford to continuously buy colors I can't use and hope they work. And really you don't know if they will work until you get them home and on the glass cabashon. The darkest brown works great on my nail. Rubbish on the glass. It needs something to make it look brown. Like a background. And the cabashon is domed so it reflects from the sides as well. I love using nail polish to paint this things. They have thier own little paint brushes that I do not have to clean every time I work on an eye. But what works on a flat surface with no reflective properties doesn't always work in one that does. Not all of them are bad. The blue I got reflects green flecks in it. On a flat surface it is just a little shiney. On they caboshon it looks like irridescent scales. It is gorgeous. I just need to learn the right technique to make it look right.
Ok, enough whining. I really needed to get that out though. Here is today's fail, with the blue that looks so pretty. The camera does not do it justice. I need to figure out how to make it so it works on the stop mo. I feel like I should be Catholic. Bless me father, for I have sinned. It has been 1 week since my last blog post.....
I guess at least this time it has only been a week. I am still working on getting the dragon eyes to work for my video for Anglicon. I ordered sealer for the backs of the cabashons, and while I was on the website I saw black self hardening clay that was fairly cheap. So I ordered that too. I will sculpt the dragon eyelids in several positions and use replacement animation for that part. Hopefully that will work. We shall see. It all depends on how well they come out. I am a crappy sculptor, and it is only getting worse as I lose strength in my hands. When it gets here I will play around with it and see what I can get. I have also been making dragon eyes for friends. The practice has been good. I still don't have it down 100%, but starting to look better. I love making them, even if they turn out wonky. Kind of a Zen like activity. I play DnD online on Wednesday and Thursdays, and while everyone else is playing thier turns I have been painting on them. I have such a hard time just doing one thing at a time, and no patience with sitting and doing nothing. I never just watch TV....I watch TV while I am working on a project. If I don't have one, I find one to start. If I try my brain wanders and I end up not watching it at all. Same with the game. I will wander away while I wait, and forget to come back. Well, when I have more I guess I will come back and report. I hate hurry up and wait. I am waiting for the sealer, waiting for the clay, waiting for everything. I don't have much to post today, but I wanted to get something in at least. I have been busy with school and stop mo, and had a few days of sick time. I am currently working on eyelids that shut for the dragon eyes. So far I have failed with fabric tape and wire, molded TP and paper mache. This week I am playing homework catchup from being sick last week, so it has been a while. When I get those done successfully I will try a test sequence and post it. The eyes themselves, though, work marvelously for what I want them to do, which is exciting. If I can ever get through it, the final video will be cool. That is exciting.
I am also battling with a floofy butt cat who loves me...probably to death. I don't know why. He is not my cat. But Sunday morning at 2am, I was awakened by a paw hitting my face. The last 4 days I had been so sick I couldn't even get out of bed or sit up, and the previous afternoon was the first day I could. I opened my eyes, there was floofy butt cat, with a squealing, squirming very frightened mouse in his jaws. He held it about 2 inches from my face. I am ok with most insects and animals, but mice...I was out of bed and yelling so fast. He dropped the mouse on the floor and looked at me. I tried lecturing him about how I did NOT need a mouse, but he was not having any of it. When I went into the bathroom, he followed me and dropped the still alive, still screaming mouse at my feet. He was DETERMINED to give me that mouse, whether I wanted it or not. I appreciate the snetiment, but when you are still recovering from being sick, and have issues with mice that are alive, that is not the gift you want. He has stuck close by my side, purring loudly and randomly bringing me things. His favorites are shrews and mice. Though yesterday it was a snake. I have no idea what to do about it. I can't really get mad at him. I mean, I really do not believe he has malicious intent. It is just...annoying. And not how you want to be awakened at 2am on a Sunday. |
