More minis, Happy Holiday, and various other things...

I hope everyone is having a good holiday, or is enjoying spring, whichever you do. I personally celebrate Passover. This year it snuck up on me so I did not have a Seder here. I didn't go anywhere either. I made some deviled eggs and gefilte fish and some veggies, but that was it. Oh, and I left a cup on the table for Elijah. This week is always my hungry week. We can't eat wheat, barley, oats, spelt and rye. That is 90% of my diet. I prepare by buying Matza, buying up lots of veggies and chicken, buying macaroons ( I LOVES the Passover macaroons that Manischewitz makes.) I usually make my own Matza flour out of Matzas. Right before Passover starts, Matza bread (well, cracker realy) is CHEAP. Buying Matza flour...not so much. I have a wonderful blender that reduces them to powder really fast.

The last few days I have been playing with my miniatures. Here are a few pictures:
Picture
I made 2 potato chips bags. I made these out of candy wrappers. For the record, it is HARD to get the glue to work on slick plastic and slick foil.
Picture
And here's the final product. I am making chips to put in the green one and leave it open on the table. Now I need to figure out how to make labels.
Picture
I tried to make some buttons for the remote I made. First I dampened a 3x5 card.  Then I cut the wet card into little squares.
Picture
Lacking any real molds, I took a square dowel and pushed the wet squares into craft foam hearts and let them dry. Worked great, but I can't use them. WAY too big. I can't make them any smaller, so I will just leave it black.
Picture
I also made some paper cups. I soaked some card in glue and molded it over some chop sticks. The down side was that they stuck to the sticks. Next time I will just dampen it. These will be the bottom of the cups.
Picture
I then glued tubes around the chop sticks, then shoved the bottom into the tube. Worked great. Here is the finished product. Now I just need to figure out straws and lids.
So that was my foray into minis for this weekend. It is nice and in the 60's today, so I am tempted to go photogging. I probably won't, as I woke up this morning with a rattly chest. But I am tempted, and if I give in don't be surprised when I post photos.

ALSO....last but not least, you can still go and vote for my video at the Douglas Adams Video Contest. It closes April 15th.....which is 7 days away. Yup, just ONE WEEK to get me to stay at #1!! We can do it. :)

Now I just need a mini Doctor......

I looked through my script and through the book and I couldn't find anything I needed for this video. The drawers idea looks awesome, but has some serious altering that is needed and I am too tired to do that today. It shows you how to make a dresser or drawer cabinet with matchboxes. They use the large ones. I have the tiny ones, though they are still a bit big for my 1-1/2 inch guys. I would need to cut them in half length wise and width wise, which would lose the drawer-like quality of the matchbox. I need to go to the dollar store to get some groceries anyway, so tomorrow I will see if they have smaller ones. If not, and I have the energy, I will see if I can take one of the matchboxes apart and make a shrunken pattern from it.

So instead I tried to make a mini replica of my David Tennant era Sonic Screwdriver. Here are the results, for better or worse:
Picture
Here is the original....
Picture
And here is my attempt at a replica.
Yup...the original is 7 inches, and my replica is just over half an inch. it is kind of hard to see. The top has blue paint on it. I plan to enhance that with GIMP magic when I do the actual shooting. the original has a blacklight on the end that glows blue. It order for it to glow I pretty much decided when I wrote the scene that it was going to have to be enhanced. I may try to do another one, just to see if I can get it carved better. I really am not a sculptor.  It was completely square when I started.

And I did this:
Picture
That is going to be the remote control. I haven't decided if I am going to attempt to add button like things or not. It is so very, very tiny.

And that is all the energy I have. I was up until 3am last night. Stressing about not having a job yet is effecting me in a big way. I had to get up this morning, though, to fill out applications and resumes. I think I did ok with them. I hope I did not say anything stupid in my sleep dep state. But I got a few in for places I really want to work, so please send good vibes from wherever you are. Employments is a must. At least the cancerous looking lip scab is gone, though I still can't move my lip correctly.

Ok, lastly but not leastly, you can still go vote for my Douglas Adams Video.  Ten more days and voting will be done. I just wanna know already. Apparently grouchy tired Eleanor is grouchy and tired.

EDIT: OK, I had to do it. I took pictures with the guy and the Sonic Screwdriver.  Here's the best one. Look at these pictures, though, seems I am going to have to take a whack at making another one. The black part split.

But, but, but....I am the craft WINNER!

OK....I am going to admit here that the reason I haven't updated in a few days is because I wanted to have the last post on top, and get people to go vote for my video. But now I have something I really REALLY want to post about, so I am biting the bullet and posting. You can still go vote for my Douglas Adams Tribute Video. If you do I would be really really appreciative. And I promise not to hold any more posts hostage for it.

This weekend my friend gave me this:
Picture
This awesomely wonderful book has ideas for different miniature scenes and how to make each of the elements in them.
Picture
Picture
This is so cool! Look at these teeny tiny containers!
Picture
They are made from the clear plastic tops from those sample lipsticks from Avon. And little pipe fittings. Though it is easy to over clutter a scene, I feel a set feels more authentic when you get more detail in that is organic to the scene. Obviously not all of these things were meant to be used. In fact, most of them aren't. Some of them can easily be modified to be utilitarian.
Looking through these pages I have a lot of ideas of what I want to do. It shows how to make lamps with beads, how to get mini curtains to hang naturally (which has been a mystery to me up till now), and other stuff. I have always thought of myself as a creative person, but sometimes it is nice to have something that can help you kick start yourself. Priming the creative pump, so to speak, to use a cliche and all that. I am all excited now. A bunch of this stuff I already have sitting around my cluttery craft area. Or sitting in boxes. Or resting in the back of drawers. See, I am not a craft hoarder. I am an economical crafter. :)
